Patience

Learning to be patient through suffering is one of life’s lessons most of us would rather just skip over.

Teach me patience, O Lord

My soul is uneasy, distraught

Help me to wait, O Lord

This battle so long I’ve fought

Mold and shape me, O Lord

You are the Potter, I’m clay

I’m being remade, O Lord

Inwardly renewed each day

Guide and direct me, O Lord

My eyes greatly need your sight

Step after trembling step

With your wisdom be my light

Hold me up, O Lord

My spirit yearns for strength

Trials that persist

Give me faith unending length

Help me give it over, O Lord

Surrendering everything unto you

Nothing’s impossible ever!

Your LOVE, POWER, MERCY hold true.

My dear friend Ana and I have recently been discussing how the Lord’s been using our weak bodies to teach us patience. I struggle so much with an impatient attitude and need to constantly run to my heavenly Father for strength as I endure nearly 4 years of chronic fatigue and TBI. He is faithful in calming my spirit, while I wait on Him in hope. He is teaching me to abide in Him with a quieted spirit as a weaned child (Psalm 131:2).

Colossians 1: 9-11
9
For this cause we also, since the day we heard it, do not cease to pray for you, and to desire that ye might be filled with the knowledge of his will in all wisdom and spiritual understanding;

10 That ye might walk worthy of the Lord unto all pleasing, being fruitful in every good work, and increasing in the knowledge of God;

11 Strengthened with all might, according to his glorious power, unto all patience and longsuffering with joyfulness;

In this school of being taught by pruning, I am grateful for His love, mercy, and compassion each and every moment, as I surrender to His will. Truly, His plan for my life is good (Romans 8:28) and His grace is sufficient. I’m asking God for wisdom in this and to show me patience with joyfulness as I wait on His timing for healing. He’s healed me so much already and I’m getting stronger but like a child waiting for Christmas, the anticipation of my healing gets greater and more intense as I slowly start to see progress and experience more good days. I want to dive in and unwrap my presents of healing now!

2 Corinthians 12:9 King James Version (KJV)

9 And he said unto me, My grace is sufficient for thee: for my strength is made perfect in weakness. Most gladly therefore will I rather glory in my infirmities, that the power of Christ may rest upon me.

My mama once told me there are three ways we need to learn patience;

1) to be patient with ourselves

2) to be patient with others

3) to be patient with God (His timing)

Being patient is being more like Christ. How glad I am for God’s patience with me! I was just telling Mr. Sweeney the other day what an incredibly slow learner I am. In God’s classroom, I feel like the dunce most days but I’m so very grateful God always extends merciful patience with me as He instructs me through His word.

Please dear God, continue to show me how to wait on you in faith with a renewed spirit of patience.🙏💗

Much love,

Good Eyes, Bad Brain

Happy June, Dear Ones!! Well, here’s some good news. After checking my eyes and evaluating me, my eye doctor says that my eyes are perfectly healthy and the issue is brain related, not eye related. He looked at my husband and told him that the eyes don’t see anything……they just send messages back to our brains to properly receive and process signals from them. Eye tissue is actually brain tissue and the eyes are the pathway to the brain. Since my brain is healing, I can not handle visual stimulation whatsoever. I tried to watch an action movie with the kids but the aftermath makes me change emotionally, and not in a good way! Staying offline and limiting screens has made a huge difference in my healing process.

This is only temporary however, my eye doctor does think my issues with light sensitivity may be chronic.

I do want to return to blogging but it can only be possible if I keep it at a minimum. I hope to be here but if I’m quiet at times or delayed in responding, please bear with me because this ol’ noggin of mine is truly healing, but slowly, and can’t process things properly at the present. I am continuing to pray for you and yours often and greatly appreciate the sweet thoughts, notes, and prayers from you all.

Much love,

Viv 💚

Good Vibes

Due to my brain injury noise has become a huge problem for me. This isn’t easy being in a small house with lots of sounds coming from kids and pets but the worst part of my auditory struggles has been my husband’s new beloved hobby: opera. I feel crazy whenever he plays those screaming meemies and seriously want to break something. Like in the children’s book Harry and the Lady Next Door, in which Harry wants to bite and be bad due to the lady’s cringy decibles. He bites the leg of the piano instead of her but I can commiserate 100% with that poor little black and white pooch.

Here is my life saving remedy: VIBES!!!

Vibes has been a game changer for me! Going to church or public places that were noisy used to be excruciating for my ear sensitivity, resulting in over stimulation and nervous system overload. A few months ago my dear friend Michelle from jumbledbrain sent these ear plugs to me and wow, have they changed my life! My old ear plugs were just cheap yellow things that stuck out of my head like a squash and never fit well or really helped. However, Vibes come in three different sizes and are completely clear, making them barely detectable! I can wear them for hours without even realizing anything is stuck in my ears! Vibes filter out unwanted sounds and work with your brain to help you hear noises you want to hear! It’s awesome how they are designed to make auditory issues so much better. I love them. Now that I’ve tried them out, I will never go back!

As a result of having a TBI, the muscles in my head get very tense if I am around loud noises. These tense muscles result in pain, dizziness, and nervous system overload. Now having the vibes I can listen to music at levels both my husband and I agree on (although I stilI hate opera), occasionally attend church, be in crowds, and the pain doesn’t come! My kids can turn up the volume of their favorite song and I can enjoy listening instead of running away to hide. The Vibes come in a small pouch I can fit in my purse or pocket and I will not leave home without them.

I would not give such a strong recommendation if I didn’t deeply believe these could help you. No one is paying me to write this, I just so much want to help if you have the same issues with noise I’ve suffered from. For months my ear nerves were so shattered my poor kids had to remain as quiet as church mice. It was a frightening experience if I was faced with a sudden boom or holler. The pain was so intense that I actually have a touch of hearing loss in my left ear. Maybe if I had Vibes a couple years ago life would have been easier, but I’ve got them now, and I’m so thankful I do.

Much love,

Viv 💚

My First Podcast Interview

God has given me the amazing opportunity to share my story and hope through Fran at keys2concussion TBI podcast!! I prayed so much over this and God gave me the strength to relate in detail the journey of my TBI from beginning to the present. I’m pretty tired now, but as I rest and recover, I pray that whoever chooses to listen ( it’s only 27 minutes ) will be blessed to hear my testimony and story which underscores the awesome power of God.

Much love!!
